I saw the tear roll down her cheek,
A single drop of sadness
In a sea of pain.

I wanted to reach out and wipe it away,
But I didn’t know if she would let me.

So I just stood there,
And watched her cry.

She cried for a long time,
And I cried with her.

We were two strangers,
But we were connected in that moment…

The Stories We Tell in Ubers

I stood there for a moment and watched the Uber disappear into the night.

I thought about the Uber driver’s story, and about the people I had met in Kampala.

I thought about the city, and about the possibilities that it held.

I thought about my own story, and about the future that I hoped for.

I smiled, and I turned to walk home…
